The City of Georgetown will observe Veterans Day on Tuesday, Nov. 11, with closures across multiple municipal offices and facilities. While city operations pause for the holiday, essential services such as solid waste and recycling collection will continue as scheduled. Due to the holiday, the Georgetown City Council has rescheduled its regular meeting to Wednesday, Nov. 12.

The following locations will be closed on Nov. 11:

  • City Hall, 808 Martin Luther King Jr. St.
  • Council and Courts Building (including Municipal Court), 510 W. Ninth St.
  • Georgetown Municipal Complex, 300-1 Industrial Ave.
  • Grace Heritage Center, 817 S. Main St.
  • Parks and Recreation Administration, 1101 N. College St.
  • Planning Department, 809 Martin Luther King Jr. St.
  • Public Library, 402 W. Eighth St. (closed for inventory Nov. 3–7)
  • Public Safety Operations and Training Center, 3500 D.B. Wood Road
  • Recreation Center, 1003 N. Austin Ave.
  • Tennis Center, 400 Serenada Drive
  • Visitors Center, 103 W. Seventh St.

Facilities Remaining Open

  • Garey Park, 6450 RM 2243: Open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Transfer Station, 250 W.L. Walden Drive: Open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Transit Services

GoGeo paratransit bus services will operate on Nov. 11. Additionally, residents and visitors can access reduced-rate rides through Uber or wheelchair-accessible vehicles via rideGTX.

Veterans Day Ceremony

The annual Veterans Day Ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. on Nov. 11 at the Georgetown-Williamson County Veterans Memorial Plaza, 2 Texas Drive. The East View High School band and orchestra will begin performing at 10:45 a.m. The ceremony will feature remarks from guest speaker Col. Paul F. Howe, U.S. Army Chaplain, Retired. Seating will be available, and attendees are welcome to bring their own chairs. Refreshments will be served on the Sun City Social Center patio following the event. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will move indoors to the Social Center ballroom.

Field of Honor®

From Nov. 8–16, the Rotary Club of Georgetown Foundation, in partnership with the City of Georgetown, will host the ninth annual Field of Honor® at San Gabriel Park. Up to 2,000 full-size American flags will be displayed and may be purchased and dedicated in honor of veterans, active-duty military, first responders, and service animals. Proceeds benefit nonprofit organizations supporting these groups.

Highlights include:

  • Opening Ceremony: Nov. 9 at 1:30 p.m. with keynote speaker Captain Dave Carey (ret)
  • Veterans Day Ceremony: Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. with keynote speaker Major General Scott Efflandt
  • All-branch cake-cutting ceremony following the Nov. 11 event
  • Exhibits honoring the 250th anniversaries of military branches and local emergency services
  • Displays of Rotary service and humanitarian projects
