Dry and pleasant conditions are expected across much of the country Friday evening, creating ideal weather for trick-or-treaters. While most areas will enjoy clear skies, a few regions—including the Pacific Northwest, northern and central Appalachians, and parts of the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes—may see scattered showers or cloud cover.
Locally, in the Austin and San Antonio areas, Friday will be sunny and seasonably cool, with north winds at 5–10 mph and high temperatures ranging from the 60s to low 70s. Evening temperatures will dip into the mid to upper 40s under clear to partly cloudy skies, accompanied by light southeast winds.
A weak cold front will move through South-Central Texas on Saturday, bringing a slight chance of showers—mainly east of I-35. Rainfall amounts are expected to be minimal, with only a trace to a few hundredths of an inch in most locations. Temperatures will remain near to below seasonal norms through the weekend.
Looking ahead, strengthening high pressure aloft will usher in a warming trend next week. By Wednesday, many areas could see highs near 80 degrees, especially west of the I-35 corridor.
As Daylight Saving Time ends at 2 a.m. Sunday, residents are reminded to set clocks back one hour before going to bed Saturday night. This is also a good time to review family safety plans, replace batteries in smoke detectors and alerting devices, and practice fire drills and severe weather sheltering procedures.
Please note: NOAA Weather Radio station WXK27 (162.400 MHz) serving Austin is currently off the air due to an equipment issue. Technicians have identified the problem and a replacement part is on order. For updates and forecasts, visit weather.gov/ewx.
Stay safe, stay visible, and enjoy a festive Halloween evening across Central Texas and beyond.
