Austin Parks and Recreation has enacted a burning restriction across all city-managed parks, greenbelts, and preserves due to heightened wildfire risk in Central Texas. The decision follows established safety criteria aimed at protecting park visitors and surrounding communities.

Under the restriction, the use of wood or charcoal grills, BBQ pits, and smokers is prohibited. Propane stoves may still be used, but only within designated picnic areas. Smoking remains permanently banned in all City of Austin parks.

The restriction is in accordance with City Code § 8-1-92 and will remain in place until weather conditions improve. Violations may result in fines ranging from $300 to $500.

Officials will continue to monitor fire conditions and will issue a press release once it is deemed safe to lift the restriction. For updates and wildfire safety information, residents are encouraged to visit AustinTexas.gov/Wildfire.
