The City of Austin and the Mexic-Arte Museum will host the 42nd Annual Viva La Vida Festival and Parade on Saturday, October 25, from noon to 6 p.m. This free, public event celebrates Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) and stands as Austin’s largest and longest-running tribute to the tradition.

The day begins with a vibrant parade starting at Neches Street on 6th Street and concluding at the festival grounds near 4th Street and Congress Avenue. Attendees can expect colorful costumes, dancers, floats, and live music along the route.

The accompanying street festival will feature hands-on art activities, traditional foods, local artists and vendors, a low-rider exhibition, and live performances throughout the afternoon.

🚧 Transportation and Road Closures

Road closures in downtown Austin will begin at 5 a.m. on Saturday to accommodate the event. Visitors are encouraged to use CapMetro, bicycles, or dockless devices. Alternate routes for non-attendees include:

  • North/South: I-35, Guadalupe Street, Lavaca Street
