As the work week winds down, North and Central Texas remain under warm and breezy conditions. Afternoon wind gusts may reach up to 25 mph today and again on Friday, ahead of a weekend system that could bring storm activity to the region.
Storm chances increase Saturday, with isolated afternoon storms possible. However, the primary concern for strong to severe thunderstorms will be Saturday evening into the overnight hours. Cooler air is expected to follow on Sunday, offering a brief reprieve before temperatures rebound on Monday. Another front is forecast to arrive early Tuesday, bringing a second cooldown and low rain chances across Central Texas through midweek.
In the Austin and San Antonio areas, low morning clouds will give way to mostly sunny skies by afternoon. Highs will range from the mid-80s to lower 90s—well above seasonal averages for October 16. While most areas will stay dry, slight chances of showers and thunderstorms remain in the forecast for parts of the region this weekend and again midweek.
Nationally, the short-range outlook from the National Weather Service includes scattered showers and thunderstorms across the Plains and Upper Great Lakes through Saturday. Light snow is expected over portions of the Northern Rockies and Great Basin, while weak onshore flow may bring rain to the Pacific Northwest, Gulf Coast, and parts of Florida.
KNCT Meteorologist Bill Hecke reports clear to partly cloudy skies across Central Texas this morning, with temperatures in the upper 50s to low 60s and light southeasterly winds. Highs today will reach the mid to upper 80s, remaining above normal for this time of year. A weak weekend front may shift winds but is unlikely to bring significant rainfall.
