The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, in partnership with McLennan Community College, will host a hands-on cooking class titled Taste of the Mediterranean on Tuesday, October 28, from 5 to 7:30pm at the AgriLife Extension office for McLennan County, located at 4224 Cobbs Drive.
The class will be led by Rachel Esquivel, AgriLife Extension family and community health agent for McLennan County. Esquivel will guide participants through the foundations of the Mediterranean diet, which emphasizes plant-based ingredients such as whole grains, vegetables, legumes, fruits, nuts, seeds, and herbs. Foods like fish, poultry, dairy, and seafood are included in moderation, with olive oil serving as a primary source of added fat.
Recognized for its health benefits, the Mediterranean diet draws from culinary traditions of countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea, including Italy and Greece. Attendees will learn how to prepare dishes using key ingredients and will leave with recipes to try at home.
The cost to attend is $25, and registration is required by October 26. Interested participants can register online or call McLennan Community College Continuing Education at (254) 299-8888.
