As cooler weather approaches, Central Texas homeowners are invited to attend a practical workshop designed to help protect trees from winter stress. Hosted by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, the “Winterizing Your Trees” program will take place on Wednesday, October 16th, from 6 to 7:30pm at the Williamson County Extension Office, located at 100 Wilco Way, Georgetown, in the second-floor conference room.

Led by Dr. Stephanie Adams, a board-certified master arborist and tree pathologist with over two decades of experience, the session will cover essential techniques for maintaining tree health during colder months. Topics include:

  • Proper winter watering practices
  • Mulching strategies
  • Tree wrapping for freeze protection
  • Pruning timing and methods

The workshop is open to the public, with a $10 fee payable at the door by cash or check. Attendees are encouraged to pre-register at tx.ag/winterizingtrees.

Dr. Adams, who serves as an assistant professor in the Texas A&M Department of Plant Pathology and Microbiology, will share insights drawn from her extensive field and lab work. The program aims to equip residents with actionable steps to safeguard their landscapes, especially as Central Texas winters can pose challenges such as freeze damage and disease vulnerability, including oak wilt.
