The Texas State Board of Education (SBOE) has announced the recipients of the 2025 Heroes for Children Award, recognizing 15 outstanding individuals for their exceptional volunteer service and commitment to Texas public school students.

Each year, the SBOE selects one honoree from each of its 15 districts to celebrate those who go above and beyond in supporting students, educators, and school communities. This year’s recipients represent a diverse range of contributions—from mentoring and advocacy to organizing community resources and leading parent-teacher organizations.

“These individuals embody what it means to be a beacon of excellence,” said SBOE Chairman Aaron Kinsey. “Their passion and commitment support students and educators and strengthen communities.”

Highlights from the 2025 Honorees:

  • Elizabeth Weaver (District 1) has supported Anthony ISD through academic coaching, health screenings, and community outreach, including food drives and grant advisory work.
  • Xochitl Garcia (District 2) has fostered a welcoming school environment through event planning and family engagement over eight years.
  • Ysela Gonzalez (District 3) has led impactful fundraisers and mentored students across multiple campuses, promoting reflection and growth.
  • Ariana Sanches (District 4) mobilized parent volunteers and contributed to meaningful campus improvements through her leadership.
  • Courtenay Kehl (District 5) has enriched student lives through the Wimberley Best Buds mentoring program, fostering inclusivity and support.
  • Mary Adegbesan (District 6) has empowered underserved students through nonprofit leadership, college readiness programs, and tech education.
  • Amberly Craft (District 7) has mentored students and coordinated events that uplift campus culture and emotional well-being.
  • Cassandra Gonzalez-Posey (District 8) has served in multiple leadership roles, advocating for student health, planning, and community engagement.
  • Arnecia Robinson (District 9) has strengthened school-community ties through PTO leadership and local business partnerships.
  • Jennifer Noonan (District 10) transformed a uniform exchange program into a sustainable initiative benefiting thousands of families.
  • Marissa Villafranca (District 11) has supported student well-being through front office service, classroom assistance, and event coordination.
  • Jenna Maynard (District 12) founded a food pantry and played a key role in Huffman Elementary’s transition to an IB campus.
  • Juan Narvaez (District 13) mentors teens and promotes community involvement as a pathway to student success.
  • Adrian Musquiz (District 14) celebrates students through creative initiatives and serves as a behind-the-scenes leader in campus operations.
  • Susan Elaine Perez (District 15) advocates for curriculum reform and civic engagement, inspiring others to pursue educational excellence.

The Heroes for Children Award continues to highlight the vital role volunteers play in shaping student experiences and strengthening Texas schools.
