The holiday season in Austin is about to get a splash of youthful creativity as the Austin Parks and Recreation Department opens its call for entries to the Annual Zilker Holiday Tree Art Contest. Budding artists between the ages of 5 and 10 are invited to submit their festive masterpieces for a chance to be part of one of the city’s most cherished traditions.

Each year, the Zilker Holiday Tree, a towering symbol of community and celebration, comes to life with the help of Austin’s youngest visionaries. The contest is divided into two age categories: Junior (ages 5–7) and Senior (ages 8–10). The top three winners from each group will be honored during the tree lighting ceremony on Sunday, November 30, 2025, where their artwork will be showcased to the public.

The contest not only gives children a platform to express their holiday spirit through art, but also highlights the importance of creativity in community engagement. Past winners have captured everything from twinkling lights and cheerful ornaments to imaginative depictions of Austin’s skyline wrapped in holiday magic. Families can explore the Gallery of Previous Art Winners to see how local kids have helped light up the season.

Entries are being accepted through Saturday, November 1, 2025. Young artists are encouraged to submit their work early and let their imaginations run wild. Whether it’s crayons, paint, or mixed media, all forms of holiday-themed artwork are welcome.
