The City of Killeen will begin renovations this September at Long Branch Park to convert an existing tennis court into four new pickleball courts. The project is scheduled to take approximately two weeks, during which time the tennis courts will be temporarily closed for resurfacing, installation of nets and court furniture, and surface curing.

The $25,000 initiative was approved by the City Council and is supported by a matching grant from Texas Parks and Wildlife, which will reimburse half the cost. The new courts reflect growing local interest in pickleball, a sport that blends elements of tennis, badminton, and ping pong and is known for its accessibility and social appeal.

“Pickleball has grown tremendously in Killeen, and our community has been asking for more opportunities to play,” said Antonio Murphy, Executive Director of Parks & Recreation. “This project adds to our recreation options and strengthens community connections.”

Once completed, the new courts will offer residents additional opportunities to stay active and engaged.
