As the sun rises over North and Central Texas this Saturday, residents across more than 30 counties—from Grayson and Fannin to Bell and Robertson—are waking up to a serious reminder: a heat advisory remains in effect until 8 PM CDT.

With heat index values climbing as high as 108 degrees, the combination of scorching temperatures and high humidity poses a real risk for heat-related illnesses. Outdoor workers, athletes, and anyone spending extended time outside are especially vulnerable.

Counties Affected Include:

Grayson, Fannin, Lamar, Denton, Collin, Hunt, Delta, Hopkins, Tarrant, Dallas, Rockwall, Kaufman, Van Zandt, Rains, Johnson, Ellis, Henderson, Hill, Navarro, Freestone, Anderson, Bell, McLennan, Falls, Limestone, Leon, Milam, and Robertson.

Safety First: What You Can Do

  • Hydrate often—water is your best defense.
  • Stay indoors when possible, especially during peak afternoon hours.
  • Dress smart—lightweight, loose-fitting clothing helps your body stay cool.
  • Check on neighbors, especially seniors and those without air conditioning.
  • Never leave children or pets in vehicles, even for a moment.

Cooling Shelters Available

To help residents beat the heat, many municipal buildings across the affected counties are open during regular business hours as cooling shelters. These include libraries, community centers, and city offices. If you or someone you know needs relief from the heat, check with your local city or county government for locations and hours.

Know the Signs of Heat Illness

  • Heat exhaustion: heavy sweating, weakness, dizziness, nausea.
  • Heat stroke: confusion, high body temperature, loss of consciousness—this is a medical emergency. Call 911 immediately.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recommends frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas for those working outdoors.
