Killeen Animal Services is opening its doors—and hearts—this month as part of the nationwide Clear the Shelters campaign, a movement dedicated to helping pets in need find loving homes. Throughout August, all adoption fees are waived, making it easier than ever for families to welcome a new furry friend.

So far, 74 animals have found their forever homes through the initiative, and shelter staff are hopeful that number will continue to climb. “Our goal is to find loving homes for as many animals as possible,” said Amanda Moore, Killeen Animal Shelter Manager. “By waiving adoption fees, we hope to make it easier for families to bring a new pet into their lives.”

In addition to the national campaign, Killeen Animal Services is participating in the Central Texas Shelter Showdown, a friendly competition with Lampasas Animal Shelter, Hill Country Humane Society, and Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter. The contest will culminate in a massive adoption event on Saturday, August 23 at noon, hosted at the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter (1855 SE Inner Loop, Georgetown, TX).

Whether you’re looking for a playful pup, a cuddly kitten, or a calm companion, now is the time to adopt. For more information and to view available pets, visit killeentexas.gov/animals.
