As the school bells ring in a new academic year filled with purpose and pride, the Killeen ISD Board of Trustees has announced the appointment of Dr. King Davis as interim superintendent, effective August 11. With more than 30 years of experience in public education—including over a decade as a Texas superintendent—Dr. Davis brings a steady hand, a strategic mind, and a heartfelt belief in the power of strong schools and strong communities working together.
Dr. Davis most recently led Sheldon ISD, where his leadership helped reverse academic challenges, close an $11 million budget deficit in just one year, and expand college and career readiness programs. His career spans every level of education, from classroom teacher to district executive, and is marked by thoughtful listening, high expectations, and deep care for students and staff.
“Strong communities build strong schools — and strong schools build strong communities,” says Dr. Davis, a message that resonates deeply with the values of Killeen ISD.
The Board of Trustees expressed full confidence in Dr. Davis’s ability to guide the district through this transitional period. His track record in both academic achievement and sound business operations positions him to assess where Killeen ISD stands today and help chart a clear, purposeful path forward as the search for a permanent superintendent continues.
The Board also extended its gratitude to Dr. Terri Osborne, who served as acting superintendent during the interim selection process, and reaffirmed its commitment to long-term progress and community engagement.
As the district embarks on a new school year, the Board shared its appreciation for the families, staff, and students who make up the KISD community:
“Together, we are moving forward with confidence, care, and commitment — and we’re so glad you’re with us.”
