A Birthday Tribute Streaming Worldwide

Carnegie Hall celebrates the legacy of a musical titan with the exclusive streaming premiere of Because of You: My Tribute to Tony Bennett—a heartfelt performance by Grammy-nominated vocalist Michael Feinstein and the Carnegie Hall Big Band. Premiering Friday, August 1, the broadcast honors Bennett’s birthday and enduring contributions to the American Songbook.

Filmed on tour at Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa, California—with direction by Habib Azar and generous support from Elizabeth Segerstrom—the concert showcases Feinstein’s stirring interpretations of Bennett’s classic hits, including “Because of You,” “I Left My Heart in San Francisco,” and “New York State of Mind.”

The tribute began with a sold-out debut at Carnegie Hall’s Zankel Hall in spring 2024 and expanded into a 50-city tour across the U.S. With arrangements steeped in jazz tradition and personal recollections of friendship, Feinstein shines a light on Bennett’s seven-decade career and deep ties to Carnegie Hall. Bennett first performed there in 1961 at a civil rights benefit alongside Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack, headlined in 1962, and returned for more than twenty celebrated performances—his final, a duet with James Taylor in 2011.

Michael Feinstein’s illustrious career spans Grammy and Emmy nominations, international concert tours, and acclaimed PBS and NPR programs. As a longtime ambassador of the Great American Songbook, his performances at the White House, Buckingham Palace, and Carnegie Hall have made him one of the genre’s premier interpreters.

His “Standard Time” series has brought Broadway gems and jazz classics to Carnegie Hall for over two decades. Feinstein, who debuted at the Hall in 1978 with a Gershwin tribute, has now performed there more than 100 times.

Available through Apple TV, Prime Video Channels, Spectrum, Xfinity, Verizon Fios, Sling TV, and more, Carnegie Hall+ offers hundreds of hours of curated performances—from the Salzburg Festival to the BBC Proms—bringing world-class artistry to audiences at home.

You can find additional details, excerpts, and programming on Carnegie Hall’s official streaming channel.
