Texas Folklife Presents An Intercultural Harmony Convening August 21st and 22nd
In a celebration of heritage that transcends state lines, Texas Folklife invites the public to Bridging Borders – Music, Memory & Culture, a free two-night convening spotlighting the musical and cultural ties between Louisiana and Texas. Hosted at the storied Zion Hill Historic Site, this soulful gathering blends dialogue, performance, and lived tradition across generations.
Thursday, August 21 — Roots & Reflection
The convening opens with an intimate conversation and demonstration led by Louisiana legends Rockin’ Dopsie Jr. and his brothers, Tiger and Anthony, joined by accordion master Jesse Lége. Together, they’ll explore the evolution of roots music and its powerful cross-border influence, sharing sounds and stories that pulse with history.
Friday, August 22 — Rhythm & Celebration
Get ready to move! The second night builds in momentum with Jesse Lége’s Bosco Stomp igniting the stage, followed by Rockin’ Dopsie Jr. & the Zydeco Twisters. Their high-energy sets promise an unforgettable fusion of Cajun, Creole, and Texas musical traditions—foot-stomping proof of music’s power to unite.
This convening embodies Texas Folklife’s mission to preserve and uplift the cultural practices that shape our communities. “We’re celebrating not only the border we share, but the love of music that binds us,” says Communications Director Mariela Freire. “Bridging Borders is about storytelling, memory, and connection—values that resonate deeply in East Texas and beyond.”
The event is presented with generous support from the Laura Jane Musser Fund, which champions community enrichment and the arts.
Admission is free and open to all. Details and updates available at Texas Folklife’s event page.
