The fine arts programs in Copperas Cove ISD are entering a new era, with dedicated leadership now at the helm.
On Tuesday, the CCISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved the appointment of Megan Kenobbie as the district’s first-ever Director of Fine Arts, a role designed to oversee band, choir, theatre, and visual arts programs across all campuses.

Kenobbie, a lifelong advocate for the arts, brings a wealth of experience as both an educator and administrator. Before stepping into this new position, she served as assistant principal at Copperas Cove High School, where she helped guide students through key transitional moments—from graduation to the shift from middle school to high school.
“As a lifelong supporter and participant in the fine arts, from performing in choir and theatre to directing student productions as a teacher, I understand the transformative power these programs have on young people,” Kenobbie said. “My experience leading a high school theatre program and collaborating with fine arts educators as a campus administrator has deepened my passion for promoting creativity, expression, and student voice. I am honored and excited to step into this role, where I will work to elevate, expand, and celebrate the arts across our district.”
Kenobbie’s commitment to fostering creativity in students has been evident throughout her career. She previously led theatre programs, managed show selections, organized fundraising efforts, and coordinated performances, ensuring students had meaningful opportunities to explore their artistic potential.
CCISD Superintendent Dr. Brent Hawkins expressed enthusiasm about the impact Kenobbie will have on the district’s fine arts landscape.
“Mrs. Kenobbie is passionate about the opportunities provided for our students through fine arts and will be an enormous advocate for these programs,” Hawkins said. “In addition to overseeing our programs at the secondary level, she will work closely with elementary principals to enrich the arts experience of each student in CCISD. We look forward to seeing the positive impact she will continue to have on our students and schools.”
Kenobbie will officially step into her new role after the district returns from the Fourth of July holiday.
In addition to welcoming new leadership, the CCISD Board of Trustees approved several investments aimed at enhancing campus safety and infrastructure.
- New HVAC units will be installed in the Williams/Ledger Elementary School cafeteria, replacing aging units that have exceeded their usable lifespan.
- Card readers and security cameras, largely funded by grant money, will be placed across district campuses to improve safety measures for students and staff.
- TransFinder services will be introduced, allowing parents to track their child’s bus rides to and from school.
Dr. Hawkins emphasized the importance of these upgrades, particularly regarding the district’s aging HVAC systems.
“Our district has done a great job maintaining its HVAC equipment, and that’s evident in the longevity of these units,” Hawkins said. “However, some systems are over 20 years old, and these two have reached the point where repairs are no longer feasible. This purchase ensures continued comfort and safety for students, staff, and food preparation areas.”
The CCISD Board of Trustees will hold its July workshop on July 14 at noon, followed by its regular meeting on July 15 at 6:30 p.m. Both sessions will take place in the Board Room at the District Service & Training Center on South Main Street. Meeting agendas will be posted outside the center 72 hours in advance and will be available on the district’s website.
