As summer temperatures rise, the City of Austin is bringing together multiple departments to help residents prepare for emergencies, improve efficiency, and embrace sustainability. The Summer Pop-Up Events, scheduled for June 4-5, will provide valuable resources, demonstrations, and giveaway items at two Utility Customer Service Centers.

Attendees will have the opportunity to pick up essential items, including:

  • Solar Power Banks courtesy of Austin Energy to keep devices charged during outages.
  • Low-flow showerheads from Austin Water to promote water conservation.
  • Reusable shopping bags and compostable bags provided by Austin Resource Recovery.
  • Neighborhood Preparedness Guides from the Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management to help families create emergency plans.

Supplies are limited, so residents are encouraged to arrive early.

Austin Energy is offering online resources to help residents prepare for summer heat and potential outages. Customers can:

  • Learn what to do during an outage and where to find updates.
  • Access energy-saving tips to lower utility bills.
  • Explore discounts through the Customer Assistance Program.
  • Find out about free home energy efficiency improvements through the Weatherization Program.

With Stage 2 Watering Restrictions in effect, Austin Water is urging residents to conserve water by:

  • Watering lawns only on assigned days and times.
  • Taking shorter showers (five minutes or less).
  • Installing faucet aerators and low-flow showerheads.
  • Using the My ATX Water Customer Portal to track water usage and receive alerts.

Austin Resource Recovery is sharing tips on composting and recycling to help residents reduce waste:

  • Compost spoiled food and scraps in the green composting cart.
  • Recycle empty plastic, glass, and metal containers in the blue recycling cart.
  • Download the Austin Recycles app for service alerts and disposal guidance.

Austin Homeland Security and Emergency Management is encouraging residents to follow the four pillars of preparedness:

  1. Make a plan for emergencies.
  2. Build a kit with essential supplies.
  3. Know your neighbors and support each other.
  4. Stay informed through alerts and social media updates.
