Cedar Park has officially joined the ranks of Music Friendly Texas Certified Communities, a distinction awarded by the Texas Music Office (TMO) to cities that actively support and cultivate their local music industry. This recognition highlights Cedar Park’s dedication to fostering a thriving music scene and integrating music into the city’s cultural and economic landscape.

Governor Greg Abbott announced the designation, emphasizing the importance of music in Texas: “Music is key to the Texas brand and is deeply rooted in the cultural traditions of our great state. Music Friendly Texas Communities work tirelessly to attract and develop the local music industry to boost job creation and economic growth.”

The certification was formally presented during the May 22, 2025, City Council meeting, where representatives from the Governor’s Office and April Walker-Davis, Cedar Park’s Tourism Marketing Manager, outlined the significance of this achievement. City officials expressed pride in receiving the designation, reinforcing their commitment to supporting musicians, venues, and businesses that contribute to Cedar Park’s vibrant arts scene.

Mayor Jim Penniman-Morin shared his enthusiasm for the designation, stating: “Cedar Park is honored to be designated as a Music Friendly Texas Certified Community by the Texas Music Office. Music has long been a vital part of Texas culture, and in Cedar Park, we recognize its incredible power to bring people together, enrich our community, and create meaningful economic opportunities.”

City Manager Brenda Eivens echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the broader impact of the certification: “By joining this program, we are not only amplifying the voices of our musicians but also strengthening Cedar Park’s cultural identity and economic vitality. This certification helps attract businesses, tourism, and investment, further establishing our City as a vibrant destination for music and commerce.”

Cedar Park now stands among more than 80 Music Friendly Texas Certified Communities across the state, each working to enhance local economies through music industry development. The certification process involves stakeholder engagement, community education, and the establishment of a Music Office liaison to serve as a dedicated resource for musicians and music businesses.
