The Texas State Board of Education (SBOE) is calling on communities across the state to nominate outstanding volunteers for the 2025 Heroes for Children Award—an annual recognition honoring individuals who make a lasting impact in Texas public schools.

For more than 30 years, the award has celebrated Texans whose dedication to education has shaped the futures of students through mentorship, advocacy, and service. Past honorees have included parent-teacher organization leaders, literacy champions, and mentors who have guided students toward success beyond graduation.
Each year, the SBOE selects 15 recipients, one from each board member’s district, to be recognized for their contributions. Eligible nominees include any Texas resident who volunteers their time and effort to support public schools and students—excluding elected officials and educational employees.
“The Heroes for Children Award is a way to shine a light on the incredible individuals who go above and beyond to support Texas students,” said an SBOE representative. “Their dedication strengthens our schools and communities, and we are honored to recognize their efforts.”
Nominations for the 2025 Heroes for Children Award are open until July 11, 2025, at 5 p.m. (CDT). Honorees will be celebrated at an SBOE general meeting in Austin, where they will be formally recognized for their contributions.
