Killeen, TX — Central Texas College (CTC) has appointed Wendy Sledd as its new Chief of Marketing and Communications, bringing more than four decades of expertise in professional communications, journalism, and public relations to the role.

Sledd most recently served as the Executive Director of Communications for Waco ISD. Before that, she led Copperas Cove ISD’s communications department for nearly a decade, earning statewide recognition for her innovative storytelling and strategic communication efforts.
“I am honored to lead Central Texas College’s marketing and communications department, which is focused on maintaining open and effective relationships and communication with staff, students, families, and community members in meaningful and engaging ways,” Sledd said. “I joined the Central Texas team to serve students not only in their academic journeys but also by highlighting their achievements outside the classroom, especially in our military community.”
In her new role, Sledd will oversee a comprehensive communications strategy, including media relations, branding, internal and external communications, public information requests, digital content management, partnerships, college publications, and the CTC website and social media platforms.
CTC Chancellor Dr. Michele J. Carter expressed confidence in Sledd’s leadership, saying, “Mrs. Sledd has 40 years of experience in journalism, professional communications, and event planning, and is a recognized state leader in public relations. We are pleased to have her expertise in this critical role.”
Beyond her professional achievements, Sledd brings a deep understanding of the military community, having been a military spouse for nearly 35 years. Her career has spanned multiple states and countries, including work in television, radio, newspapers, and magazines. She also served as a political press aide on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., Virginia, and Oklahoma.
Her accolades speak to her dedication and impact in the field. As Vice President for the West Central Texas Region of the Texas School Public Relations Association (TSPRA), she has earned 140 state TSPRA awards, including three prestigious Crystal Awards—TSPRA’s top honor. Her journalism career has also garnered a regional Edward R. Murrow Award for Investigative Reporting, along with accolades from Louisiana teachers unions for her coverage of public education. Nationally, her work has been featured in Newsweek, CNN, and the BBC.
Her commitment to community service has also been recognized at the state level, as she was honored as a Yellow Rose of Texas by the Governor of Texas, an award given to Texas women who exemplify exceptional leadership and volunteerism.
Sledd’s appointment underscores Central Texas College’s dedication to fostering transparent communication and engagement with its diverse student body and the broader community it serves. She officially assumed her new role on May 1.
