Sarah Doran’s journey from Blackhawk helicopter mechanic to celebrated children’s author is nothing short of inspiring. A former military child, U.S. Army veteran, and military spouse, Doran has dedicated her writing career to crafting stories that authentically represent military families and children.
Her books, including The Peppered Sky and Sleeping Giants, bring to life the experiences of military families through engaging narratives and vivid illustrations. The Peppered Sky follows siblings Haleigh and Mason as they witness a mesmerizing airborne training exercise, inspired by Doran’s own childhood memories of watching her father, a paratrooper, jump. Meanwhile, Sleeping Giants introduces young readers to the world of Army aviation through the eyes of Finn and his helicopter mechanic mother.

Doran’s passion for storytelling was ignited during her college years when she realized the lack of representation for military children in literature. Determined to fill this gap, she turned to writing and self-publishing, ensuring that military families could see their experiences reflected in high-quality books.
Beyond her writing, Doran is committed to expanding access to her stories. She has launched Kickstarter campaigns to fund the printing of her books in the U.S., allowing for wider distribution and greater impact.
Living in Central Texas with her husband, two sons, and mischievous cats, Doran continues to write, homeschool her children, and advocate for military family representation in literature. Her work not only educates and empowers young readers but also fosters a deeper understanding of military life among civilians.

For those interested in exploring her books, they are available on Amazon, Etsy, Spouse-ly, and her official website.
