Copperas Cove Independent School District (CCISD) earned high marks in the Texas Education Agency (TEA) accountability ratings for both the 2022-23 and 2023-24 school years.

For the third consecutive year, CCISD maintained its high “B” rating at the district level, continuing to outperform schools across Region 12 and the State of Texas.

In the 2022-23 ratings—the last under the previous testing framework—Martin Walker Elementary stood out as the district’s lone A-rated campus. Additionally, House Creek Elementary earned a B rating but shined nationally as a National Blue Ribbon School, an honor recognizing exemplary student performance.

Joining House Creek with a B rating were nearly all other CCISD campuses, including Clements/Parsons Elementary, Fairview/Jewell Elementary, Hettie Halstead Elementary, Mae Stevens Early Learning Academy, Williams/Ledger Elementary, Copperas Cove High School, Copperas Cove Junior High, Crossroads High School, and S.C. Lee Junior High.

Notably, no Copperas Cove campuses received a rating lower than a “B” in 2022-23. Furthermore, all nine eligible campuses secured at least one STAAR Distinction, demonstrating student achievements among the best in Texas.

Elementary schools showed strong academic performance through STAAR Distinctions:

  • House Creek Elementary stood out in Postsecondary Readiness.
  • Williams/Ledger & Clements/Parsons Elementary Schools excelled in Comparative Academic Growth and Closing the Gaps.
  • Martin Walker Elementary earned five distinctions, spanning Reading & Language Arts, Math, Postsecondary Readiness, Academic Growth, and Closing the Gaps.
  • Fairview/Jewell Elementary & Hettie Halstead Elementary, two of the district’s most economically disadvantaged schools, achieved all six possible distinctions for an elementary campus.

At the secondary level:

  • Copperas Cove Junior High received distinctions in Math and Closing the Gaps.
  • Copperas Cove High School earned recognition in Academic Growth, Postsecondary Readiness, and Closing the Gaps.
  • S.C. Lee Junior High secured five out of seven possible distinctions, including Math, Social Studies, Postsecondary Readiness, Academic Growth, and Closing the Gaps.

In the 2023-24 accountability cycle, all 11 campuses achieved a passing rating under the state’s new system.

Crossroads High School, a non-traditional at-risk campus, earned an A rating, while multiple schools—including Clements/Parsons Elementary, Copperas Cove High School, Fairview/Jewell Elementary, House Creek Elementary, Martin Walker Elementary, and Mae Stevens Early Learning Academy—secured B ratings.

Copperas Cove Junior High, Hettie Halstead Elementary, S.C. Lee Junior High, and Williams/Ledger Elementary earned C ratings under the updated metrics.

While STAAR designations for 2023-24 remain pending, CCISD leaders are optimistic about continued success.

Superintendent Dr. Brent Hawkins emphasized the district’s commitment to educational excellence:

“Copperas Cove ISD continues to prove itself as the district of choice in Central Texas. We are beating the state average in nearly every subject, and I think these results highlight the incredible dedication of our teachers and instructional staff.”

Deputy Superintendent Amanda Crawley echoed this sentiment, praising CCISD’s innovative teaching and strong curriculum:

“CCISD has the very best in curriculum, and our teachers provide outstanding instruction daily. The support system for educators is strong, and it shows in our students’ results.”
