Everything’s bigger in Texas—including the passion for traditional accordion music. On April 26, 2025, the heart and soul of Texas folk music will come alive at the Promenade Park Amphitheater in Edinburg, where the 19th Annual Big Squeeze Semi-Finals will showcase the largest group of youth accordion contestants in the event’s history.

Presented by Texas Folklife, the Big Squeeze competition celebrates the dedication and artistry of young accordionists who keep the rich musical traditions of Conjunto, Polka, and Zydeco thriving. With over 15 contestants vying for a coveted spot in the finals in Austin, this year’s event promises electrifying performances and a glimpse into the future of Texas accordion music.

Beyond the competition, the evening will feature dynamic sets from regional favorites. La Calma, well-known for their Tejano sound, will take the stage alongside Los Ybarra Boys, a talented young family band dedicated to keeping conjunto music alive. Hosting the festivities is none other than Bumper Gomez, a beloved champion of Texas folk music whose energy and enthusiasm will ensure an unforgettable night.

But it’s more than just a competition—it’s a celebration of culture, family, and community. Admission is free, inviting locals and visitors alike to cheer on the next generation of accordion virtuosos while enjoying live music under the Texas sky.

For those eager to experience the magic firsthand, doors open at 6pm at Promenade Park Amphitheater. Prepare for an evening where nostalgia meets innovation, and the future of accordion music is in the hands of talented young performers.
