Killeen Prepares for Temporary Lane Closures on Elms Road

Roadwork interruptions are a familiar part of city life, but when planned properly, they offer the opportunity for smoother commutes and improved infrastructure. On Thursday, April 3, and Friday, April 4, West Elms Road in Killeen will experience a temporary eastbound lane closure as a private contractor conducts important work in the area.

From 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., the outside eastbound lane between Stefek Drive and Old Florence Road will be closed, with potential sidewalk closures also affecting pedestrian access. Traffic delays are expected, but officials assure residents that a traffic control plan will be in place to safely guide drivers and pedestrians through the area.

Road closures—whether brief or prolonged—can be disruptive, but city engineers emphasize the importance of careful planning to minimize inconvenience. Motorists are urged to use caution, obey all traffic control signs, and allow extra time for travel.

These scheduled closures not only facilitate necessary road improvements but also highlight the complexity of urban maintenance projects, where safety and efficiency must be carefully balanced.

For those with concerns or questions, the City of Killeen Engineering Office is available at (254) 616-3172 or via email at engineering@killeentexas.gov.

Officials recognize that construction disruptions are never ideal, but they appreciate the patience and cooperation of Killeen residents as the city continues to invest in safer, more reliable roadways.
