City of Gatesville Announces Lifeguard Positions at City Pool

The City of Gatesville has opened applications for lifeguard positions at the City Pool, located at 300 South 8th Street. Interested candidates must be 15 years or older by May 12 and complete a blended learning certification course, including a swim test, to qualify for consideration.

The swim test comprises two prerequisites designed to evaluate candidates’ swimming and lifesaving skills:

  • Prerequisite 1: Candidates must execute a swim-tread-swim sequence without resting. This includes swimming 150 yards, treading water for two minutes using only the legs, and swimming another 50 yards. Goggles are permitted for this portion.
  • Prerequisite 2: Candidates must complete a timed event in under 1 minute and 40 seconds. It involves swimming 20 yards, retrieving a 10-pound object from a depth of 7-10 feet, and returning to the starting point while holding the object above the surface. Goggles are not allowed for this segment.

Successful applicants will then enroll in the American Red Cross Lifeguarding – Blended Learning Class, scheduled from May 5 to 11. Completion of this certification course does not guarantee employment.

Applications are due by April 25. Interested individuals can apply and register for the free training class at Gatesville Parks and Recreation. For more information, applicants can contact the City of Gatesville at 254-865-8951.
