New Electric Vehicle Charging Stations Installed in Downtown Belton
The City of Belton has added two new electric vehicle (EV) charging stations downtown as part of the General Motors (GM) Dealer Community Charging Program. These stations aim to support the growing number of EV owners and encourage sustainability within the community.
Each station features two chargers and is strategically located to provide convenience to drivers visiting downtown attractions. The charging stations can be found at the following locations:
- Lena Armstrong Public Library (301 E. 1st Avenue)
- City Parking Lot at Penelope and Central (next to Whittler’s Shed)
The chargers are universal, making them compatible with most EV models. Tesla vehicles can also use the chargers with an adapter. These are Level 2 chargers, designed to provide a full charge over several hours. This makes them ideal for EV owners who want to explore nearby shops, restaurants, and attractions while their vehicle charges.
Charging costs 20 cents per kilowatt-hour (KWH), with payments handled through GM’s Flo network, ensuring a seamless user experience.
The project was made possible through a partnership with Don Ringler Automotive, which supplied the stations and will oversee their maintenance for the first five years.
This initiative reflects the City of Belton’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure for electric vehicles and supporting sustainable transportation. By providing accessible charging options, the program aims to promote EV adoption and offer practical solutions for drivers in the area.
