The 2025 Bassmaster Classic Returns to Lake Ray Roberts

FORT WORTH – This year, 56 anglers will compete, launching their boats from public ramps at Ray Roberts Lake State Park-Isle du Bois Unit. Daily weigh-ins will be held at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, located about an hour from Lake Ray Roberts, while outreach and education activities are planned at the Bassmaster Classic Outdoors Expo at the Fort Worth Convention Center.

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) will play a significant role in the event, ensuring the care and release of fish back into Lake Ray Roberts after each day’s weigh-ins. TPWD staff will also offer angler education, boater education, and more at the Bassmaster Tailgate outside the Convention Center.

Inside the expo, visitors can engage with local fish biologists, explore displays like the Toyota ShareLunker program, and learn about TPWD’s electrofishing boat. TPWD will distribute its newly published “Bass: A Texas Parks & Wildlife Fishing Journal,” a comprehensive guide to bass fishing in Texas, covering topics such as bass science, fishing tips, and black bass species.

Known for producing impressive catches, Lake Ray Roberts boasts favorable conditions for bass fishing, particularly during the pre-spawn season. Female bass, full of unfertilized eggs, tend to weigh more at this time. The lake has produced six Legacy Class ShareLunker entries, including a record largemouth bass weighing 15.18 pounds, caught in March 2015.

TPWD has actively managed the lake’s fisheries, stocking 4.6 million fingerling Florida bass and selectively bred Lone Star bass to maintain high-quality fishing conditions. The lake’s habitat features rocky banks, seasonally flooded shrubs, brush piles, and aquatic vegetation, providing optimal environments for bass.
