Promoting Healthy Meals and Nutrition Education Across the State

AUSTIN – Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller has invited all Texans to join in celebrating National Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) Week, which runs from March 16 to 22. This annual event highlights the invaluable work of sponsors partnering with the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) to deliver healthy meals and snacks to approximately 12,500 sites throughout Texas.

Commissioner Miller emphasized the importance of the program by acknowledging the contributions of its dedicated sponsors: “With National CACFP Week, we honor the hard-working Texas sponsors serving nutritious meals that support healthy habits for Texans of all ages. These sponsors served over 200 million meals and snacks last year, incorporating nutritional education into their efforts. CACFP helps ensure more Texans have the nutrition they need for an active and healthy life.”

The CACFP program offers eligible Texans access to nutritious meals and snacks, either free or at reduced prices, at adult daycare centers, childcare facilities, home-based daycares, and afterschool programs.

In support of the weeklong celebration, TDA has made an array of resources available through their website, SquareMeals.org/CACFPWeek. These resources include fun, fruit-and-vegetable-inspired recipes, activity sheets to educate participants about nutrition and healthy living, and promotional materials such as posters and web banners. The aim is to help CACFP sponsors increase awareness about the program and its benefits for Texas families.
