City of Cedar Park Implements Stage 3 Water Conservation Measures

Starting March 1, 2025, the City of Cedar Park will enforce Stage 3 Water Conservation Measures, which include a mandatory reduction of outdoor watering to one day per week. This decision comes in response to declining water levels in Lake Travis, the city’s sole water supply, managed by the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA). As part of Stage 3, customers will also see a temporary water conservation rate adjustment beginning March 31.

Lake Travis, along with Lake Buchanan, has seen its combined storage drop below 1.1 million acre-feet. Additionally, inflows for the past three months have been below the 25th percentile of historic inflows. In response, the LCRA has called for a 20% reduction in overall water consumption. Cedar Park’s measures aim to meet this target and ensure a sustainable water supply during the ongoing drought.

New Outdoor Watering Schedule:

Residential:

  • Addresses ending in 1 and 3: Wednesday
  • Addresses ending in 4, 6, and 8: Thursday
  • Addresses ending in 5, 7, and 9: Saturday
  • Addresses ending in 0 and 2: Sunday

Commercial:

  • All commercial properties (including apartments and HOA-owned properties): Tuesday

Watering is permitted before 10 a.m. and after 7 p.m. on the designated days. Customers with automatic irrigation systems should adjust their schedules accordingly. For more information, FAQs, and helpful videos, visit Water Thrifty Cedar Park.

Starting March 31, a temporary rate adjustment will be implemented to encourage water conservation. This adjustment will be reflected in utility bills beginning in mid-May. Customers can monitor their water usage in near-real-time and set alerts through the City’s Digital Metering Portal at Digital Metering Cedar Park.

The rate adjustment ensures the City of Cedar Park maintains adequate funding for water utility operations, continuing to deliver safe and high-quality drinking water.
