In honor of Heart Month, we are encouraging everyone to join the Nation of Lifesavers by learning Hands-Only CPR. This lifesaving technique is crucial for adults and teens, as it can double or even triple the chance of survival in cases of sudden cardiac arrest.
Hands-Only CPR is straightforward and consists of two simple steps performed in this order:
- Call 911: Immediately dial 911 if you see a teen or adult suddenly collapse.
- Push Hard and Fast: Push hard and fast in the center of the chest to the beat of a song with 100 beats per minute, such as “Staying Alive.”
While Hands-Only CPR is effective for adults and teens, it’s important to note that infants and children require CPR that includes breaths. Cardiac arrest outside of the hospital affects more than 23,000 children each year, with 40% of these incidents being related to sports and nearly 20% involving infants.
By learning and being prepared to perform Hands-Only CPR, you can be ready to step up for a loved one, a neighbor, a friend, or a co-worker in their time of need.
Join our Nation of Lifesavers and equip yourself with the knowledge and skills to make a difference.
