KILLEEN, Texas (Feb. 14, 2025) – In response to the upcoming freezing temperatures, the City of Killeen has partnered with Friends in Crisis to provide an enhanced warming center at the Friends in Crisis shelter, located at 412 East Sprott Street. The center will be open from Tuesday, Feb. 18 at 8 p.m. until Thursday, Feb. 20 at noon.
The warming center aims to offer a safe and warm place for those in need during the cold snap. The City of Killeen is actively monitoring the weather and will update the warming center hours if necessary.
Warming Center Details
- Location: Friends in Crisis shelter, 412 East Sprott Street
- Opening Time: Tuesday, Feb. 18 at 8 p.m.
- Closing Time: Thursday, Feb. 20 at noon
The City of Killeen’s policy mandates opening a warming center if the temperature or wind chill factor is forecasted to fall below 32 degrees. Decisions are based on National Weather Service data and made as early as possible, but no later than 3 p.m. on the day the center would be opened.
Public Facility Access
City of Killeen buildings, including City Hall, libraries, the Recreation Center, and Police Headquarters, are always open to the public for warming (or cooling) during their normal business hours. Visitors are required to adhere to a code of conduct while at these facilities.
Donation Information
Citizens who wish to donate water can drop it off at any Killeen Fire Station or the North Precinct Police Station in downtown (402 North 2nd Street). Please inform the staff that the donations are for the cooling/warming centers. Non-water donations should be coordinated with the Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management at (254) 501-7706 to determine current needs.

The City of Killeen relies on partnerships with organizations to operate warming and cooling centers.
