KILLEEN, Texas (February 7, 2025) – The Killeen ISD Relays, a much-anticipated event in the track and field calendar, saw a collective effort from coaches, athletes, and supporters at Leo Buckley Stadium. Executive Director for Athletics Matt Carroll was seen pacing around, staying fixated on the action and keeping a close listen to his Walkie Talkie.

Track and field coaches moved about with clipboards and stopwatches, while KISD coaches from other sports, both middle school and high school, were on hand to assist wherever needed. The KISD Relays truly embodied a team effort on a warm Friday afternoon, with temperatures reaching the low-to-mid 80s. The student-athletes took the baton and ran with it, showcasing grit and determination in the season-opening meet, much to the delight of the fans.

Most of the events took place around the oval, including typical races like the 4×100-meter relay, 100 and 110 hurdles, 4×200 relay, and 4×400 relay. There were also rarely seen relays such as the throwers relay, designed for athletes who specialize in shot put and discus, the sprint medley relay (200, 200, 400, 800), and the distance medley relay (1,200, 400, 800, 1,600). The only field events held on Friday were shot put and discus.

In attendance were teams from Round Rock Cedar Ridge, Manor, Abilene, Waco University, and Lake Belton, adding to the competitive spirit of the event. For an assortment of photos, visit KISD Communications’ Flickr page.
