Agenda includes Funding for Families in Crisis Program and Special Election for Councilmember Recall
The City of Killeen is set to host a city council meeting tomorrow at 3pm at the City Hall. One of the key agenda items is a resolution authorizing a funding agreement with Families in Crisis, Inc. for operating expenses for the Friends in Crisis Program, in the amount of $350,000.
The Friends in Crisis Program, operated by Families in Crisis, Inc., provides essential services to individuals and families facing various crises, including homelessness, domestic violence, and mental health issues. The proposed funding agreement aims to ensure the continued operation of this vital program, which has been a lifeline for many in the Killeen community.

The resolution to authorize this funding agreement underscores the city’s commitment to supporting vulnerable populations and addressing the pressing needs of its residents. By allocating $350,000 to the Friends in Crisis Program, the city aims to provide stability and resources to those who are most in need.
Another significant item on the agenda is an ordinance ordering a Special Election on May 3rd, to determine whether District 4 Councilmember, Michael Boyd, will be recalled. This election follows a recall petition submitted by Killeen resident Mellisa Brown, which gathered 218 valid signatures from qualified electors within District 4. The reasons cited for the recall include Boyd’s alleged failure to listen to the citizens of Killeen, violations of the Principles of the Code of Conduct, and misuse of tax dollars. Boyd had the option to resign within five days of the petition certification but chose not to, leading to the scheduling of the recall election.

The meeting will also cover other important resolutions, including the termination of the Employee Benefits Trust Fund, approval of a petition for release from the City of Killeen Extraterritorial Jurisdiction, and the issuance of certificates of obligation for capital projects.
Additionally, the council will discuss the upcoming May 3, 2025, General Election and Special Elections for a bond election.
Residents are encouraged to attend the meeting to stay informed about the decisions that will impact the community and to voice their opinions on these critical issues. The city council values public input and aims to make decisions that reflect the best interests of all Killeen residents.
