The City of Killeen has teamed up with Friends in Crisis to offer an overnight warming shelter at 412 East Sprott Street. The shelter opened at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 10 and will remain open until 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 11.
The city opens warming centers when the temperature or wind chill is forecasted to drop below 32 degrees. Decisions are made by 3 p.m. on the day the center would open, based on National Weather Service forecasts.
City buildings like City Hall, libraries, and the Recreation Center are always available for warming during normal business hours. The city encourages community organizations to help operate these centers and provide volunteers.
For more details, you can visit the City of Killeen’s website and tune in to KNCT for updates on warming center status’.
