Hobby Memorial Library Update

Hi everyone, this is Cindy Oser of Hobby Memorial Library here at Central Texas College.

We’ve got some great events coming up.

On Monday, March 28th, live on our Facebook, we are talking to Doctor Leighann Temple, who is a government professor at Central Texas College. She will discuss ways to contact your legislation regarding environmental change.

As part of our environmental science series, we’re going to be talking about recycling, conservation, butterflies, bird watching, archaeology, and land stewardship. Lots of speakers that we have this entire year that are going to be focusing on how we can make a better world and doctor.

Watch it at facebook.com/CTCHMLIBRARY.

Also on Monday, April 4th, we have Mr. Bob Ayres, who is the President of SHIELD Ranch and he’s going to be talking to us about land stewardship. You know, when we think of conservation, we think of birds, animal conservation, and pollution. All of that is involved, but then sometimes we don’t think about land, building trees, and taking care of what we have.

On March 30th, we have another Night Sky Tour with our CTC astronomer, Warren Hart. Warren will help you to look up at the sky and figure out what’s going on. Each month he shows constellations and what we can see without a telescope. Make sure that you join us for that one, also at noon on our Facebook page.

We have two space events that are going to be coming up. Wednesday, April 6th at noon on our Facebook page, Warren is going to be talking about that Eclipse in 2024. It’s going straight over our area, and we are thrilled about it.

Warren is going to talk about what’s going to happen and how to track it.

And then after that on April the 12th we have International Day of Human Spaceflight.

One of our planetarium staff members worked at NASA, and so we are going to be finding out all about spaceflight, NASA, and amazing information from her.

CTC students have until March 30th to submit your work for Byways. Byways is a competition for students who attended last fall or are current students. Students can enter poetry, short stories, artwork, painting, sculpture, digital art, photography, woodworking, metalworking, music lyrics, music score, playwright, or anyone who is creative.

Instructions on how to enter are available at the following website:

https://www.ctcd.edu/academics/library/byways/

If you become a finalist, you will be published. Five past students have published books that are now available at any bookstore. Don’t negate being published, even if it’s a school journal, because it will be a steppingstone into your future.

As always, you can get in touch with librarians at referencerequest@ctcd.edu, we’re here for you always.

Have a great week, thanks.
