The City of Temple has partnered with The Salvation Army to provide overnight warming shelter services during periods of severe winter weather. The shelter, located at 419 W. Avenue G, will open when temperatures reach 32 degrees in dry conditions or 36 degrees in wet conditions.
Warming Shelter Hours
- Open from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. on qualifying nights
- If temperatures remain at or below 32 degrees at 7:30 a.m., guests may stay inside until conditions improve
- Only registered service animals are allowed indoors; special arrangements can be made for pets of overnight guests
What to Expect at the Shelter
- Warm indoor space and secure overnight accommodations
- Cots, food, and drinks provided
- Service animals permitted indoors; overnight guests may request special arrangements for pets
Additional Warming Stations (Daytime Only) Residents can also access warm indoor space at the following locations, though these do not operate overnight:
- Feed My Sheep – 116 W. Avenue G, Temple, TX 76504
- Temple Public Library – 100 W. Adams Ave #310, Temple, TX 76501
A blue flag displayed outside these facilities will indicate when the Warming Shelter or Warming Stations are activated. Other city facilities will remain open to the public during their standard operating hours.
